# People, Apps & Workflows

> The three things Orbit understands about your work

Orbit is built around a simple idea: to be genuinely helpful, an assistant needs to understand three things about your work.

## People & Companies

Orbit knows your network — not just names and emails, but your actual relationships.

For each person, Orbit tracks:

* How well you know them (familiarity level)
* When you last talked or met
* What company they work for
* Important dates like birthdays

Companies are groups of people. When you're prepping for a meeting with Acme Corp, Orbit knows everyone you've talked to there and what you've discussed.

**Reference people with `@`** — Type `@sarah` and Orbit suggests matching contacts.

**Reference companies with `#`** — Type `#acme` to pull up the organization.

## Apps

Orbit connects to the tools you already use — calendar, email, notes, tasks, and more.

When you run a workflow, Orbit can:

* Check your calendar for meeting details
* Look up contacts in your CRM
* Search your notes for past discussions
* Create tasks in your task manager
* Research companies on the web

## Workflows

Workflows are saved automations that combine people, companies, and apps.

Instead of manually researching attendees, checking past notes, and looking up company news before every meeting — save that as a workflow and run it with one click.

Orbit comes with 45+ built-in workflows for common tasks:

* Meeting prep and follow-up
* Weekly planning
* Relationship check-ins
* Research and email productivity

## How They Work Together

The magic is when all three combine:

1. You have a meeting with **@Sarah** at **#Acme Corp**
2. You run **/meeting-prep**
3. The workflow uses **{!calendar}** to get meeting details
4. It looks up **@Sarah** in your contacts
5. It searches for recent **#Acme Corp** news
6. You get a complete prep document
