Common questions and answers about using Orbit.

General

What is Orbit?

Orbit is a personal relationship and productivity assistant for Mac. It combines your people, apps, and workflows to help you stay on top of your professional relationships and work more efficiently.

How is Orbit different from a CRM?

Traditional CRMs are designed for sales teams and require manual data entry. Orbit:
  • Works for any knowledge worker, not just salespeople
  • Automatically pulls data from your connected apps
  • Focuses on relationships, not just deals
  • Runs entirely on your Mac for privacy

Is Orbit free?

Orbit offers a free tier with core features. Premium features require a subscription. Check our pricing page for current plans.

What Mac version do I need?

Orbit requires macOS 13 (Ventura) or later.

Privacy & Security

Where is my data stored?

Your data is stored locally on your Mac. Orbit doesn’t upload your contacts, conversations, or relationship data to our servers. See Privacy for details.

What data does Orbit collect?

Orbit collects minimal analytics (feature usage, not content) and error reports (crash logs, not personal data). Both can be disabled in Settings.

Is my data encrypted?

Yes. Local data is encrypted using macOS security features. OAuth tokens are stored in Keychain. All network connections use HTTPS.

Can Orbit read my emails?

No. Orbit connects to Google Calendar and Contacts but does not access your email content. Meeting prep uses calendar data, not email.

Connections

Which apps can I connect?

Orbit supports:
  • Google (Calendar, Contacts)
  • LinkedIn (via enrichment)
  • Various productivity apps through the apps library
See Apps Library for the full list.

Why can’t I connect Apple Contacts?

Orbit focuses on cloud-synced sources to ensure your data stays current. You can export from Apple Contacts and import via CSV.

How do I disconnect an app?

Go to Settings → Apps, find the app, and click Disconnect.

The Brief

When does The Brief update?

The Brief refreshes:
  • When you open Orbit
  • At the start of each day
  • When your calendar changes
  • Manually via pull-to-refresh

Can I customize which cards appear?

Yes. Go to Settings → Brief to:
  • Set familiarity thresholds for check-in cards
  • Choose which event types show as cards
  • Configure card frequency

What happens when I swipe a card?

  • Done — Card won’t reappear for this instance
  • Later — Card moves to a later time bucket
  • Never — Card type won’t appear for this person

The Assistant

Does The Assistant use AI?

Yes. The Assistant uses AI to understand your questions, draft messages, and run workflows. Your conversations stay on your device.

Can The Assistant send emails for me?

The Assistant can draft emails, but you review and send them yourself. This ensures you stay in control.

How do I teach The Assistant my style?

Add information in Settings → Personal Context. The more context you provide about your role, priorities, and writing style, the better the results.

Workflows

What’s the difference between Run and Remix?

  • Run — Executes the workflow as designed
  • Remix — Opens the workflow with a specific context, letting you modify it before running

Can I share workflows?

Not currently. Workflows are stored locally on your device. Sharing is planned for a future release.

How do I create a workflow?

Ask The Assistant to help you create one:
Create a workflow that...
The workflow wizard will guide you through writing, testing, and saving.

Troubleshooting

Orbit isn’t syncing my calendar

  1. Check that Google is connected in Settings → Apps
  2. Verify the calendar is selected in Settings → Calendar
  3. Try disconnecting and reconnecting Google
  4. Restart Orbit

The Brief is empty

This usually means:
  • No connected calendars
  • No contacts imported yet
  • Familiarity thresholds are set too high
Check Settings → Brief and Settings → Calendar.

Enrichment isn’t working

Enrichment requires:
  • An internet connection
  • The feature enabled in Settings → CRM
  • Contacts with enough info to match (name, company, or email)

How do I reset Orbit?

To clear all data while keeping the app:
  1. Go to Settings → Privacy → Clear Data
  2. Choose what to delete
  3. Confirm
To completely reset, uninstall and reinstall the app.
